Tom Jued Mara Gradook Moo (Bitter Lemon Soup With Spare Ribs)

Some people don’t like bitter lemon because it has bitter taste as its name but you know it’s one of healthy vegetables. I know that but I’m one of those who don’t like bitter lemon.Whenever I eat this soup I do eat only spareribs. My mother likes bitter lemon so much she always asks me to try some and I did but it was the first and the last time. I can eat bitter vegetable but not this one. My mother told me that if I don’t like bitter lemon while I cook I shouldn’t stir it and put some salt in the soup. It won’t get bitter. It really works just try it!!

Ingredients:

300 grams spareribs

2 bitter melons

1 teaspoon light soy sauce

¼ teaspoon white pepper

¼ teaspoon salt

2 cloves garlic, chopped

2 cubes of Knorr instant pork stock(optional)

5 cups water

Preparation:

1. Wash the bitter melons. Then cut both ends of the bitter melons and cut them across into 2”pieces. Cut those pieces lengthwise and scoop out the seeds and the white fluff part.

2. Cut spareribs into small pieces or 2”x2”.

3. Chop the garlic.

Cooking instructions:

1. Boil water in a pot on high heat.Add spareribs, Knorr instant pork stock, white pepper, garlic, light soy sauce and salt in the pot.

2. Reduce the heat to low, add bitter melons, and simmer the soup for 45 minutes. Do not stir it and leave the lid off.

3. When the bitter melons get soft and turn little yellow green, remove from the heat.

4. Put it in a serving bowl and serve with rice.

Tips:

You may need to add some water from time to time.

If you don’t use Knorr instant pork stock you should add more light soy sauce or salt.

To make it a vegetarian food, just omit the spareribs and add some fried garlic.

To prevent the bitter melons to get bitter do not stir while it’s cooking.

To produce a clear soup, let the soup simmer rather than boil and leave the lid off
